Rick Chellman, one of the international leaders of the Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND) movement, has more than 25 years experience in zoning, civil engineering, land surveying, engineering consulting, traffic engineering and development planning. He has worked on projects throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, England, Central America and India.

He has worked extensively on the engineering and traffic engineering aspects of TND and New Urbanism (NU), particularly in connection with street design, vehicular and human-powered traffic control, and external transportation connections. He has authored and co-authored numerous works on traffic and transportation aspects of TND/NU design.

He was awarded a Knight Fellowship from the University of Miami in 2003 and has lectured at Harvard University and the Universities of New Hampshire, California, Pennsylvania, Texas and New Mexico. He headed the traffic and transportation team for the Mississippi Governor’s Commission Recovery, Rebuilding and Renewal charrette in the fall of 2006. Eleven Gulf Coast communities were re-planned as a result of this process following Hurricane Katrina.
